What Is Placebo Effect?

When we are sick or feel sick, we go to the doctors and hope they find a cure for us. Even if the doctors say that you are not sick, we try to convince the doctor if we believe this from the beginning. If you are very stubborn, he may agree to give you medicine. You will be very happy that you can finally be treated, and you are eagerly waiting to get the medicine right away. Then you get the medicine and feel better, sometimes suddenly. Do you think the doctor really gave you the medicine?

The placebo effect is the perception that a person can heal themselves when they take a medicine, even though it has no proven therapeutic effect for their sickness. Placebo word comes from the Latin word "I will please" (I will relieve it from sicknesses), medicine and treatment are called a placebo on their own.

Placebos have been showing to work in over 30% of patients, so doctors have been using them for years. In fact most of the time, placebos are the only thing doctor can offer to the patient's pain, with his attention and support. Some researchers believe that placebos activate a psychological response. When you take the medicine, you start to feel better. But recent research has shown that placebos can also cause physical effects. So, some people don't see the harm in offering placebo drugs. Because, you know, doctor is helping his patient. But others consider this to be harmful and unethical, deceptive or even illegal.

Doctors often prescribe a placebo when they can not otherwise comfort their patients. For example, for a patient who complains of constant fatigue, if the doctor has not been able to find the cause of symptoms, he would probably recommend taking vitamins. Vitamins are actually helpful for humans, but there is no evidence that they cure fatigue. Another reason doctors prescribe placebo is because of the eagerness of drug-crazy patients. But sometimes, taking medication unnecessarily can be more harmful than good. Researches show that the two most common placebos are vitamin-like pills and aspirin which is a painkiller.

Before you have eye fatigue, I will say Bye Bye👋💆
