How to Understand That a Word Is Turkish?

 If you have an interest in the Turkish language, there are words that you probably have thought are not Turkish. Even some native speakers are struggling to find which given word is not Turkish. In this writing, I am going to show you some tips that I learned in school.

Before the Latin alphabet, the Arabic alphabet was used. When the alphabet changed, some issues came with it. Such as caret or with its direct meaning in Turkish; correcting sign. I will come back to this later.

1) Two Vowels

Two vowels can not be side by side in a word. Such as saat(clock/time), maalesef(unfortunately), aile(family), şair(poet)...

2) Two Consonants

The same consonant can not be side by side in the roots of Turkish words. Such as sıhhat(health), millet(nation), şiddet(violence), bakkal(grocery)...

3) Long Vowels

There are no long vowels in Turkish. As I mentioned before, with the alphabet change, this little thing has come into our lives to separate Turkish and foreign words. By the way, in Türkiye, many people use the wrong name of the correction sign: Şapka(caret/hat) - I know this seems awkward in English but the correct form is not "caret" for its Turkish meaning-
Carets have two purposes; one is to lengthen, and one is to make thin the letter. It also gives possessive meaning sometimes.
Such as the difference between hala(aunt) and hâlâ(still) or between kar(snow) and kâr(profit).

4)Two Consonants

Turkish words do not have two consonants at the beginning. Such as tren(train), trafik(traffic), program(programme)...

5) The "J" Sound

There is no j sound in Turkish words. Such as jöle(jelly), oje(nail polish), jilet(gilette)...

6) Starting with "-m"

Words that start with "m" consonant are not Turkish. Such as muallim(teacher), mektup(letter), mimar(architect)...

7) Change because of suffix

In Turkish, the suffix doesn't change the added word, unlike in the Arabic language, but there are two
exceptions: ben(I) changes to bana(to me) and sen(you) changes to sana(to you).
Such as göz(eye) changes to gözlük(eyewear).

      Hello, I am so excited today, because my markers came! I have been waiting for them for a week. And finally, they are in my hands. Aunties' Short Visit

My little aunt and her family also lives in Eskişehir. They and my other aunt came our house tonight. Ofcourse not for our new house, because of my eldest cousin Aleyna's university checks and dorm entering. First they came and had breakfast at our home, then they left for university.
